St. Mathew's Mar Thoma Church, Toronto is the second Mar Thoma parish to be established in Greater Toronto, in 2001, to better serve the Mar Thoma families living in the western portion of metropolitan Toronto, and the cities further west. These include Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, Dundas, Ancaster, Brantford, Guelph, Cambridge, Waterloo, Stratford, London, and St. Thomas. The Mar Thoma Church is neither a Protestant Church of the Western type nor an Orthodox Church of the Eastern type. It is oriental in its worship, autonomous in its administration, and missionary in its actions. It is a bridge between the Eastern and Western ecclesiastical traditions. The oriental form of worship and traditional ritualistic practices are maintained, and worship is conducted in the language of the people. Mission work and evangelism are given high importance.
When we started as a Parish in 2001 we had a membership of 91 families, and with the steady arrival of new immigrants over the years, the membership has grown to 281 families by the end of 2011. We have grown stronger with a single vision to move forward to fulfill and accomplish the goals of our parish. We have regular worship service every Sunday at St. Mathew's Marthoma Church in Milton. On the first and third Sunday of every month the worship service is in English, and on the second, fourth, and fifth Sundays it is in Malayalam. The parish has now begun construction of its own church building on a property purchased in the Town of Halton Hills.
