“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for
the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity” 1Timothy 4:12b
The St. Mathew’s Mar Thoma Church Sunday School strives to bring to every
child, the opportunity to build a strong and lasting relationship with Jesus Christ.
Operating under the guidelines of the Mar Thoma Church Sunday School within the
Diocese of North America and Europe, the mission reflects the goals of the Sunday
School Samajam. Under the new administrative structure of the Diocese, the two regional
Sunday School bodies (Western and Eastern Canada) have become Centres 10 & 11,
with all of Canada becoming a single region. Accordingly, the Eastern Canada Centre
Committee, formed on April 1, 2011, consists of two active Sunday Schools, belonging to
the Canadian Mar Thoma Church and St. Mathew’s Mar Thoma Church.
Sunday School follows the curriculum set forth by the Sunday School Samajam “Being
God’s people in God’s World”. Students from Grades 5 to 10 also learn about the Mar
Thoma Church history from “The Mar Thoma Church – our Foundation and Vision”.
To maintain the faith and grow in fellowship as a community of believers, the Sunday
School hosts a number of events throughout the year for the students and teachers. An
annual talent competition brings to light the many talents of our children, along with the
Vacation Bible School which is one of the highlights of our summer. In collaboration with
our mother-parish, the students participate in the March Retreat and World Sunday
School Day programs. A teachers’ retreat is also held at the start of every academic year
for teachers from both parishes. Students from Grades 5 to 10 take part in the Annual
Diocesan Examination every May, with stellar results to-date.
The St. Mathew’s
Mar Thoma Church Sunday School is proud to foster God’s word in the hearts of children
between the ages of 3 and 17. We are blessed with a group of 40 immensely talented
teachers, assistants, and volunteers who are dedicated and committed to the Sunday
School and its goals. Classes begin at 9:30am and is followed by a common-session for
all students after the Holy Communion Service.
